The forklift is a material handling machinery used to raise and transport loads from one location to another. Each part of a forklift has a particular function. Various components could be utilized to transport the load vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lift and lower the load. There are different kinds of masts used for lifting loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is situated within the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the rear of the truck.

Cab
The forklift cab is situated in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located in the cab.

Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest parts of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are located at the back so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
