Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are large industrial machinery designed with a straight boom arm which is extendable. The boom is typically located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are normally utilized for jobs that need tasks to be done at heights that exceed other types of lifts. For instance, employees are able to carry out exterior renovations or repairs on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts instead of having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The bucket of the boom lift generally just holds a single worker. These buckets are more suitable to specific tasks such as electrical repair, rather than window washing or general maintenance. These lifts are available with both indoor and outdoor tires and come in electric and gas configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Beneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the machinery gets its name. When the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. Since these types of machinery should be directly positioned under the work location, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, offer bigger platforms which enable the operator controlling the lift to access a larger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a concern with these types of equipment, as they should sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are ideal for being utilized for window installation or cladding, since they provide the employees with the desired mobility; they are also a good alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle usually used to raise workers for different tasks performed at heights. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and controls the machine. There is a bucket for where the employee can stand in addition to a winch for carrying and an actuator arm for lifting the boom.
Cherry pickers could raise workers up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to lift both heavy materials and equipment for one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types which could perform various purposes. Both of these different kinds of equipment excel at various jobs and are suitable for certain applications and finishing certain tasks.
