History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was originally founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's original name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
